Pedersoli Kentucky Pistol
« on: June 16, 2023, 07:55:36 PM »
Living in Germany is hard if you try to build a custom muzzleloader from a kit.
The availability of quality U.S. parts or kits is limited especially for pistols.
So I decided to work with what is available - a Pedersoli Kentucky pistol kit.
I tried to customize it as good as possible.
I hope it's no longer a boring italian factory pistol.
Changes to delivery status:
- Relocation of the ramrod pipes and modification of the entry pipe
- Modification of the trigger guard
- Conversion to single set trigger
- tang modification
- Manufacture and fitting of nose cap, buttplate and thumb piece made of brass
- light engravings
- Silver wire inlays
- simple carvings
- German silver front sight

Grischi,

That's a very nice looking pistol.  Thanks for posting pictures of your rework techniques.  Some good ideas there.  What's your next project?

Ron, thank you.
No further projects the next months. I think I'd rather do some more shooting.  ;D

Hello Christian, you have already seen with the other weapons and with the Kibler that you are a good craftsman. You have changed the Pedersoli kit really well, great work !

You definitely made a 'silk purse out of a sow's ear'. Nice job, I assume there are laws in Germany concerning the removal of the manufactures rolled stamping.

Alacran, you're right. The barrel has to be marked here.

Your pistol is definitely not boring and isn't a Pedersoli any longer regardless what the markings  say.  Your customizing is exponentially better than what it started as.

Wow!  Yes, that is a great transformation!  Almost easier to make one from raw materials!

Will you be shooting it too?  Maybe too nice to get it dirty, but it will look even better with some range time and use ;D

Thanks.
Of course I'm shooting it. Had it one time at the range so far.
Not happy with the grouping yet. I have to find a good load. Tested it with 20gr 3f powder, .010 lubed patch and .490 round ball.
Next I will increase the load by 5gr. up to 25gr and 30gr. Hope I will get tighter groups.

You certainly did a great job on that Pedersoli Kentucky. Everything about it is first rate. I especially like the Butt cap that you added. I am building one from bits and pieces. Pedersoli stock, a Bondino w. parker .45 barrel and a CVA flintlock. All pieces acquired from ebay inexpensively. You have showed what can be done.

Thanks again for the kind words. I feel honored.
Meanwhile I made displays for this and my other kentucky pistol.
I used brass rods brazed with silver solder and some maple for the bases.
