David Crockett Rifle
« on: June 21, 2023, 10:48:03 PM »
Finished this gun a few weeks ago.  Supposedly one of David Crockett’s earlier rifles, but I understand that it is a York / George Schroyer rifle.  I used the Harrison drawing as a guide, but tried to integrate some of Schroyer’s other work (of which there is a lot to choose from) into the carving and engraving elements.
44” – 50 cal. Rice barrel – B Wt. Dickert profile
Large Siler deluxe lock
Sights, barrel keys, nosecap, RR pipes, sideplate, toe plate, wrist inlay and patchbox are all shop made.
Thanks for looking.

That is some fine work.  Yes, I did notice that lovely peacock blue finish on the tang screw.  Just the right touch, among many nice details.

Wow Wayne, I don't know what to say other than I'm truly humbled and grateful for yours and all the other comments above.
I really owe a lot to this group of knowledgeable, talented builders and collectors for sharing their knowledge, experience and skills, paying it forward to guys like myself who are still working on their first dozen guns or so.
Now, if you don't mind, I have to go and order an oversized optivisor to fit my newly swollen head ;D
