Rich, I really like your idea. Lord knows I've got plenty of wood to make some myself. Might even salvage some lead.

That’s my plan! I tried it with a section of pine log but it blew up pretty quickly.

That Elm should out last the Pine by many many shots. Years ago I had an Ash log about that size and it lasted over three years of squirrel gun shooting before we punched a hole through it then rotated it 90 degrees and started over.

Salvaging lead was also the first thing that came to my mind. It looks like it will do the job.

With my propensity for over-doing things I’m already thinking about a removable hardwood insert after the center gets shot out. A big tapered plug to tap in from the front. I know. Can’t help it!  ;D

Excellent! I got a couple pounds of lead out of my first frame. That’s all pine would hold before exploding. I’m betting I will get 10 pounds out of my elm one after it gives up!
