This rifle has a breech plug with a cast hook that fits a corresponding standing breech tang...so it's a hooked breech.

Inspiring work as always, Taylor! Your vocation & devotion shine through. I always just feel better after looking at one of your pieces.
You may have cut it down, but it is still a hefty rifle. Not a bad trait for a single-shot rifle in the "Wild Country."  :o :o :) :)

That rifle looks great in the pictures, Taylor. 
Guys, it even looks and feels better in the hand.
I had the pleasure of doing just that, at our Annual Rendezvous, July 1st weekend.
It was hanging in Taylor's wall tent.
