Woodsrunner kit RELIEF carving
« on: August 08, 2023, 06:31:15 PM »
So I wasn’t too motivated for the routine shop work yesterday, so I decided to spend a little time turning one of our incised carved stocks into relief by hand.  Just the area behind the cheek is done.

Thanks.  Any guess as to the maximum depth of the relief?

To my untrained eye it looks like the depth is an illusion. It looks like maybe the edges are rounded to give it shape.

Jim, what you have done is exactly what I was thinking about. I just went a little to deep with what I did. I can see now that I would not have to go as deep and the carving will look just fine. Thanks again for a great product and I can see many nice guns being built around this platform. Thanks again for the great tour of your facility.

Jim I made a early statement on your kit carving about the dash lines.
Your carving here is exactly what I was referring to.  This is in my opinion SO much cleaner looking without those lines. Your skills are impressive to say the least...Beautiful...

Jim

Your guns are so precise that you can't match it by hand
I love the new techniques.

Next, silver inlay with CNC??

Yeah, we’ll be doing some silver inlay work in time.  We’ll cut, engrave and form the inlays to fit an inlet in the stocks.

I’ll also be doing some CNC relief carving.  The first iteration won’t be nearly as elaborate as this, but rather be fairly strong and become one with the stock form.

We’re also well along the Fowler project.  This will have some standard English shell carving and lock moldings along with a cast thumb piece standard.

Thanks you all for the support.

Jim
