L.J. Tavlet Lock Info. requested
« on: August 22, 2023, 05:24:34 PM »
I have a whitworth bored rifle which uses this lock marked "1980" in a shield and "L.J. Tavlet, Johannesburg".
This lock is as smooth as silk and is a joy to operate.
I am wondering if anyone has any information on this maker.

Thanks for any response.

Jim

A superb example of the lock filers art.May be a fine antique or contemporary but a Brazier style for sure. The rigidly held bridle and precisely fit tumbler PLUS a strong but limber mainspring gives that slick action.Thank you for showing this one.I do not know who this maker is but I hope it is someone who is still alive and able to do this level of work.
