Boy you aren't kidding Don, Frank and Lally are the greatest for even hosting such an event much less all the cooking they do.  Being a cook myself I've always hated not being able to contribute to the feast, but this year I at least squeaked in the zucchini bread.  It's hard to find something to bring that will travel and stay edible for a few days, maybe next year I'll bring a few jars of homemade pickles...  :P  Oh and don't get me started on the cabin.  I'm so jealous of the place and am amazed each year at the work they've put into it.  I've volunteered to be adopted into the House family, but they have yet to take me up on it.   :)

Boy I hope all the folks that displayed this year come back next year too.  I unfortunately  missed a lot of the antique side rooms so I hope I get another chance next year.

Glad to see that not too many suffered ill effects of the food.

As a former microbiologist with experience in food- born illnesses here's my rule for staying healthy at large outdoor events:  If it is not still hot from being cooked or still cold from refrigeration don't eat it.  Anything containing mayonaise that's been at room temp more than two hours is definitely a no no.  That means sometimes you should just eat crackers and cheese, a few nuts, finish off with a piece of cake or a brownie or two, and then hit the bar.
I certainly can't fault Frank and Lallie....cooking for that many people is nearly an impossible task.  Next year the CLA should look into having everything catered.

This has been the most enjoyable event for me so far. The addition of the KRA really made an outstanding event even better. The only problem I had was it was imposable to see it in the two days that the show was open. Don't think I could take it for any longer though! As for the turkey, I did not have any that I know of, but ate a sampling of about everything else!

How about Franks shop! Don Getz said he would not even drill wood with Franks ol rusty boring bits! LOL Just goes to show you what true talent can do as there is not much tooling down in that dirt floored shop. A rack of ol files, a "look at that tiny little lathe" and a ol Sears Craftsman bandsaw.

Good Morning,
I'm gradually collecting photos for the CLA page on blackpowdermag.com.  I received a batch of photos from Tim C. to add to the pics that Steve Chapman have.  Ky Flinter has some also.  I'm getting confused as to who I havs replied to and who I haven't.   Lew W, I can't find my reply to you and hope I didn't forget you.  I'm interested in yours and Tim Boone too.  There are others who posted just a couple - I'd use all I can and group them by topics.   One topic I know I want to include is ALR members - both informal shots and examples of your work.

Anyone who has pics they would like to include, let me know.  Attaching them to: larry@blackpowdermag.com  or mention where your pics are on ALR: either will work.

I will be away from a computer for a couple of days.  If you don't get a response from me, I'm probably between computers.  When these are ready I may start a topic to make sure I haven't left anyone out.

Regards,
Pletch

Don,
My friend Ton  Elgen got so  sick Sat. nite that we almost called the ambulance.
Sunday morning I was just about to tell him that he  was a sissy when all of a sudden I got  sick and dumped all my turkey.   Even though we  got sick I wouldn't have missed the show or the party for anything.  Looking forward to next year already.

That's about the sickest i've ever been. Thought i was going to die there for a little bit, Then i was afraid i wouldn't. Hope everyone else who got sick did better than i did. The show was the best of all the last 9 iv'e been too. Simply too good to be missed. I wish we could have a full three days next year if the show if it's going to be in the same configuration. Tom

More bad news from the CLA show......after the picnic at Frank and Lally's, a very good friend of ours, and his wife, traveled as far as Charleston and got a room.  During the night his wife got so sick he took her to the Charleston Hospital,
same problem as the others.  Very unfortunate ending to a great day.......Don

Was the turkey in one of the pans all pulled apart? I guess I don't remember seing the turkey. Was there any chicken? I mostly ate the pulled pork but I did have some of that bird. If it was the turkey I got lucky or killed the bad stuff with enough Makers Mark! LOL Hope all is recovering well.

Guys, I was trying to ignore this and hoped it would end on it's own, but before this gets out of hand I have to say that yes it is obvious there was a problem but we don't know for sure WHERE it came from. My son and I had lunch that day in a place where a whole lot of us who went to the show had lunch, and we both had some problems later, him BEFORE Frank and Lally's, me later on. I don't think we ought to keep this up any longer, this forum goes out all over the planet and there is a LOT of potential here for rumors to start and bad feelings to spread. I had been holding my tongue on this , I have a lot of respect for some of you guys but I think we need to stop now.

ADMIN POST:

Ian Pratt makes an excellent point.  Please do not make any more posts about getting sick at the CLA.

I missed the show (10th anniversary dinner) and have enjoyed the postings and photos.

Thanks.

The only thing that made me sick was seeing all those talented gun builders and realizing how much I need to improve. At this pace I'd have to live to be 110 years old just to catch up. My head is still spinning. I nearly threw my tools in the river!

Ian.....I agree, however, we are not throwing disparaging remarks at the House family, we all think most highly of them,
and these things can happen at any time, anywhere.   Several years ago Jim Chambers and his family came up to visit
Bob Lepley and they stopped at one of the big chain restraunts for breakfast, and guess what, they all came down with
the same thing.  It's just one of those things, but, I agree, ...we'll stop it.    Don

WOW!!!!!!!

What a show, half way through the first day I went into sensory overload! So much talent on display. Did do a little shoping, thought real hard about Wayne Dunlaps $800.00 piece of english walnut!! Did buy a barrel from Ed Rayl and some castings from Reeves.

I spent most of saturday at the KRA exhibits. The high point was Winston Rolands, John Manton & Son Double barrel shot gun that he had for sale. I came within one twinge of guilt from buying it! However a disparaging look from my wife and the fact that I need to finish renovating the house first restored me to my senses!!!!!! Oh well maybe some other time.
