I just inherited this gun and was hoping to learn more about it. I'm not a collector, nor do I know much about guns in general. Just curious to see what my grandfather left me. I can provide more detailed pictures if needed. Thanks for your help!

How long is the barrel? Is there a date behind the hammer? Need a picture of the brass plate opposite the lock.

If the barrel is 42 inches it is a second model brown bess. And by the trigger guard I can see it is not a third model

It appears to be a British military issue flintlock. Dimensions and better photos would help to more precisely identify it. Naval issue? There were several HMS Hectors in that time period. The ramrod is a later replacement.

A second model bess has a 42 inch barrel and 4 ramrod pipes. This gun has three pipes but it has the trigger guard like a second model
