Fly Hardness

Simple question. Maybe.  Should the fly be hardened?

Must be. There’s a fair bit of pressure on a thin edge. Temper to dark straw color. Purple is ok.

Yes, the fly should be hardened.I made them from 0-1 and hardened them in oil and polished them bright and then
tempered them to a light straw color..

Reason I asked is I fitted a new fly to a lock recently using swiss files. At the time the fact it was dead soft never entered my mind. Not until a day or so ago anyway.
Luckily the rifle has not been fired since then.
