Gun stock blanks
« on: November 19, 2023, 04:58:31 PM »
I just purchased a nice old, breeched  rifle barrel that might be a great small game gun. It’s just 32” long with a straight barrel. 36 caliber, 7/8” across flats with a straight tang.  It has a 1:42 twist.
I would like a semi carved stock with just the barrel and ramrod channel and hole milled. Plane maple or something a poor guy might afford🤔
Suggestions?

Bob, being it’s a straight barrel, take the plunge and sink it yourself. I bet you’ll get it right.

Hi Clark- maybe I would do the plank thing if I was younger. Time is a factor for me now 😉

Hi Bob,
Dave Keck (Knob Mountain Muzzleloading, https://knobmountainmuzzleloading.com/ ).  His turn around time is less than a month right now down from 4 months previously.  He also has many profiles and a good supply of wood.

I second Dave Keck. Does great work and is great to do business with. Sounds like you have some very good options already offered too.

I'm sure Pecatonica would have one in stock, or quickly fix you up.  On request, they will not inlet the lock and they have many profiles to choose from.  Plus they usually ship within a week.
