Leman trade rifle

Back in December, I asked for recommendations on sourcing a double throated flintlock cock for a Leman rifle build. I bought the parts from Chris Hirsch at Texasguntrade.com and all worked out very well. The lock is a good sparker. Here are a couple photos of the finished gun. I painted on the faux curly maple striping too, after reading plenty of advice on this forum.

Thank you AJ. I bought the cock, top jaw and top jaw screw from Chris Hirsch. I used them on a L&R late English lock.
It is a.50 caliber barrel. The striping didn't take as long as I expected, just start in boldly with the brush. I did stripe it twice, once with a medium brown alcohol based stain followed by narrower stripes in a darker shade. The base stain is aqua fortis.

Nice rifle.
Here is an original Leman marked “Connestoga Rifle Works”  on the barrel. 54 cal. As near as we could tell unfired. Still had a burr around the vent from the drill.  7 very narrow grooves basically just slots in the bore. All the hardware was typical Leman.

When I built mine I wasn't a big fan of the top part of the buttplate. I just didn't care for the idea of having it hang in a winter hunting coat and stabbing me when I pulled the trigger. There's a lot of metal in that top piece and I took out a fair amount.



I believe you used the same lock as I did. L&R "Late English" lock.
