original Bag Ax head
« on: November 27, 2023, 04:37:33 AM »
I was down to spend Thanksgiving with my sister and her husband in New Mexico. They live in an Adobe home that was built before 1855. It is apart of what was once a tradingpost/Stage station in Cucillo New Mexico.

I was walking my Dog on the back acer of their property and where they have been excavating  gravel on the property to make level sections for storage purposes, in the burm of excess gravel I found this AX head. It looks like some I have seen reproductions of.

It has the look of being hand forged but thought to ask those who know more about these things.

Interesting find.  I used to live in Las Cruces, and went through Cuchillo several times on hunting trips into the Black Range, or to the old ghost towns like Winston and Chloride.  NM definately has the history, the Rio Grande valley was continuously populated for the past 1500 years or more.
