More cased sets
« on: December 05, 2023, 07:30:36 PM »
The cased longrifle thread which is now locked, is not the only place to more cased sets.  There several issues of "Muzzle Blasts" which feature articles and stories about these sets, Aug. 2018 and Oct. 2018.  The first cased set that I ever built was in the late 1970's.  It went to the "Vancouver Auction Block" in 1989. From there I have lost track of it.  From what I could understand it was sold to a person in Ontario CA.  Anyway: back issues of M.B. are sill available as of this posting.
Thanks for looking.  Hugh Toenjes

That last pair of pistols is especially lovely.

All shown are very nice work. I got to see one of your cased sets at my first KRA show, I think it was 2011. It was a fabulous piece of work. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Seth:  Thanks for the comment!  It is interesting that these were commented on being that they are the very same pair in the case.  Out in the open they take on a different look.  You are not the first one to make that observation. But thanks for looking!  Hugh Toenjes

Did you ever do any traditional relief carved guns, or just the wire inlayed contemporary stuff?

I didn't catch that they were the same. At first glance, I thought the cased pair had flat pommels.

Hi Mike:  Take a closer look at the two photos of the "cased longrifle" in the locked thread.  Your answer to your question is found there.  That rifle is completely relief carved in the phots that I posted. Some of the smallest and delicate carving I have ever done on a longrifle is to be found on that rifle and in those pictures.  Failing that, I invite you to come and see the gun in person at DSC in Jan. 11-14. 2024. I will see you good for your entrance fee.  My pleasure.  Hugh Toenjes

That's quite as statement considering the caliber of work that has been posted here over the years.

Hey Ken:  While I agree with you, lets not get hung up on semantics with this thread.  I am sure what Mr. Browning was trying to say is that my work is among the most impressive work posted on this forum. Not the most impressive work.  I know we live in an age where everything we say has to be scrutinized and evaluated less we offend someone some where. But anyway thanks for your input.  Hugh Toenjes
