OK, did according to the u tube vid., I mentioned and it's done. Bloodied my thumb because the only difference between his lock and mine is that where he has a round drum towards the rear of the lock where the rod rides through (and what he uses for leverage) mine is a block, a block with sharp edges. A leather glove helped.
I had a notion to rid the lock of the ugly faux case hardening color and finish it in the grey seen on many originals, as some on the web have claimed they are but you know how that goes. Now after this bit of work I'm reassessing that idea. I'm now toying with the thought of finding a traditional style lock but have to wonder if I'd have to cut wood to accommodate the flat spring. That and is this kit worth that further expenditure? Edited to add, after checking TOW, tooguns may have something, doing it without the tool is possible, the tool may make it more possible.
