stupid question should r/r/ groove run parallel to the bore of the barrel?

It can, but certainly doesn't have to. It can be at an angle relative to the bore and also follow the swamp of the barrel. Lots of choices to create different results.

If the forestock is shaped following the swamp of the barrel; does the moulding then follow the swamp or does it remain parallel to the top or the forestock?

If the groove follows the gentle barrel swamp, the molding would most likely do the same.
