A scandanvian pocket knife from the 19 ca.
« on: February 02, 2024, 11:30:43 PM »
I have never seen knife like this. The fellow brought it in for sharpening. It was his granfathers. He came from england and was an aurborist. The other knife was a folder, eagles beak style.

I thought the wood was cork buts to heavy. The blades frame is marked Sweden.

This is a so called "Tunnkniv" (barrel knife), a folding variation of the Scandinavian Puukko knife.
And the wood is Curly Birch. Wonderfull stuff and a very rare knife.

Thank you for that information. Our sharpening guy said he found an identicle knife on line for sale for over $375.00. I just love the old stuff.  He said the guy that made it in the 1860-1890s or some such.
