The World's Worst Tansel Powder Horn
« on: February 12, 2024, 04:16:30 AM »
This past week-end at the Lake Cumberland Show down in Kentucky, I acquired my newest Tansel powder horn... or maybe I should say, it acquired me. It was a "gift" from a friend who didn't know what else to do with it, thought I'd probably appreciate it more than anyone else... and I'm guessing he didn't want his wife seeing it and thinking he was an idiot for picking it up. It's just one of those "gifts" where you have to let the pictures do the talking. And to make it even more special, it has a provenance to Owensboro, Kentucky.

Eh, just  patch that wee hole, trim the ends and put a new plug in the end, a little wax or something to recondition it..easy peasy.  I bet Tim Crosby could get that patched up and back into service in no time. :)

Finally a Tansel even I could afford  ;D
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Any story behind it?  How it was acquired?  Why the rough shape?  Which Tansel made it?  Its still a cool acquisition.  Congrats.

Man that is really neat, I can only imagine the thrill of reaching ion an old trunk or drawer and pulling something like that out. Damaged, worm and mouse eaten, I'm sure now it will survive another 200 years at least.

Was that found in an old beaver lodge?

Wish it could tell us it's history.

Items like this get much more attention than something pristine most of the time.
