Kibler rear sight which height to get?
« on: February 24, 2024, 10:15:58 AM »
I am about to order Kibler Woodsrunner, Kibler front sight blade height .176. Tallest front sight .210. Shortest heidit rear  sight .180 . Rear sight standard .226 And Rear tallest height .300. Which one to order. I have seen one youtube video the guy says it shot low. He said his gun was on a rest. And it was level. This Kibler  will be my first flintlock to own. So which one should I order. Thanks for your help.

Why not just order it with the standard sights. Then after you finish putting it together take it to the range and shoot it to see if the sights need attention. I have owned/assembled 5 of Jim's kits and the sights have been almost dead on on each one needing only the smallest bit of alteration. Jim has far more experience with proper sights than most of us, take advantage of his knowledge of what is best for his rifles.

After you. Have shot it to see what the best load is then adjust the sights just as you would with any rifle. Adjust the sights \sight in with the most accurate load.

Sights be just a guideline, until you have the best load worked out.

For a suggestion  the same height above the bore as the front sight. Generally, an excellent starting point in most calibres used today.

Get the taller rear.  Ask which front they suggest when you order.

I only see one front sight option on the website. I'd speculate that the taller front goes with the taller rear?

The low slung sights are HC.  I also put them all in the parts box and make taller ones.  I find that the lower sights have mirage issues after a couple of shots.  I also like a wider front sight than provided.

This is good news.  Is the taller sight option new?   I was not aware of it.  That will save me time on the next build.  IF necessary I'd make a front sight to match the taller rear sight.

I have 2 Woodsrunners and 3 SMRs. Using the standard front sight included in the kits I’ve found that the sight picture I’m most comfortable with and shoot the best is a rear sight V at .214 - .215 above the flat. I’ve purchased taller rear sights from Track and fit them. These numbers work for me, regardless of caliber, but they’re subjective. If/when I buy another Kibler kit I’ll try one of Jim’s taller sights now that he offers them.
