Christmas Pouch
« on: December 22, 2009, 02:40:05 AM »
Just finished a small pouch loosely based on the one Wallace featured in his article. I did not use the 2 buttone system on the strap as I wanted to use an old harness buckle from some of my great uncle's tack. This is a follow-up on a promise to young master William Roope, the son of Troy and Shannon of Stonewall Creek Outfitters.

Every time I see one of these bags I have the same wondering wandering my mind. Thought I'd be able to sort it out, but haven't. It's likely to be a forehead slapper of an answer, but here goes. ::)

What's the ring of stitching around the button? (I can't see inside the bag...)

James, nice looking bag and I like the color to.  What kind of leather did you use for this project?  Nice and simple but, well put together.
Great job.

Thanks guys. It's been a while since I made a pouch.

Jeff, some things look better from a distance.  ;D  ;D

Kermit, the stitching on mine goes through the front as seen and into another piece of leather cut in that shape of that circle. In between that sandwich of leather, is another button that is attached to the visible button like a cuff link.

Gary, I actually just used some  chromium cow I had on hand. The surface was compressed hard and burnished after the pieces were cut out. The binding "welt" on the back edge of the flap is of veg. kip. This was a trial run for a similar pouch I want to offer in the future based on an English sporting painting.
The original color of the leather was very blondish. I achieved my color with a combo of vinegar mix, various leather dyes and real neatsfoot oil.

Figured I would showcase the off center buckle hole in the last photo  ;D
