https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=79931.msg787754#msg787754Rolf shipped this lock from Norway to Bob Roller for Bob to inspect the mechanics of the lock before donating it to ALR. Unfortunately, the main spring is just too heavy for anyone other than someone with huge hands like Wayne Estes The main spring needs to be either lightened up or a new one made with less strength.
We like to give ALR members a good deal on these donations, but the problem here is that if we priced this lock at anywhere near the actual labor costs to produce, none of us would be interested in buying it. Bearing in mind that the stiff main spring needs to be lightened by the buyer of this lock, we will be pricing this one at
$175. Knowing that L&R Percussion locks start at $160 and Chambers percussion locks are $230. Both are mass-produced locks with cast parts and 2 screw bridles whereas
Rolf’s locks are hand-made out of solid steel and have 4 screw bridles. Plus, very few of these locks come in left-hand models.
We will follow our normal method of offering this lock to our members. The ad will stay up for approximately 2 weeks then locked and if multiple members have agreed to buy the lock at the stated price we will draw for the winner. ALR will ship the lock to the buyer and pay for the shipping/insurance.
