Spanish Miquelet pocket pistol
« on: April 28, 2024, 06:49:45 PM »
Hi all!
This pistol needs a new stock, the original is not repairable. I will make it in cherry wood

Neat little pistol Runar. Looks to be mid 19th century. Spanish makers liked using cherry.
It is hard to tell from the photos, but the original appears to be cherry as well.
Look forward to seeing it finished.

Good work. I don't think I've ever seen a miquelet converted to percussion.

Hi all! So I must make a new full cock level , and you think thats nothing haha its a very difficult part to make without the original. Miquelet lock is not so simpel that I think, half cock is moving out first and just after the full cock when fire ;)Not eaysi to andjust , so the Spanish have used their heads and wery nice harden parts! And yes the full cock is also a spring.

Runar, that is a really sophisticated spring. The sear has a cam that is the sear spring/full cock stop. The spring gives tension to the half cock stop as well.

I missed this post. The lock in this pistol was not converted. The Spanish, having embraced the percussion cap, made plenty of guns using Miguelet cap locks. This included military guns.

Not to disagree with what you decided to do, but I think given that 90% of the wood was there on the original stock, you could have done a tutorial on how to replace the missing pieces on the original wood.

How to prepare the original wood to accept the new wood, gluing it and blending the new wood to the old, then matching the texture and color of the original would have been interesting.

Plus that would have saved a stronger degree of originality of the pistol.

Just my opinion of course, John

John, if you study the photos of the originalstock you will see its wery bad oily and fragile and very small brakes etc ::)So now the new stock is done, photo with 2 of my earlier build smallpistols. A Deringer, and replika of OLE BRUNN pistol with beautiful engraving done by D.Taylor Sapergia! I mean building small pistol is far more work that longuns!

A fine job as usual Runar. In the muzzle view photos I noticed the barrel seems very thin. What is the bore and exterior across the flats measurement. Have you shot it?  Just curious. Thanks, Lynn

Very nice job - even looks the part. Nice you can see if it's loaded, by looking into the muzzle from a safe angle.
