New fowler kit!
« on: May 17, 2024, 03:47:09 PM »
Here are a few shots of our new fowler kit.  This is based on export grade English fowling pieces made during the 1760's or 1770's.  These were probably some of the most commonly available guns of the period.  Kit comes standard as shown.  Complete with relief carving and lock moldings!  Any questions let me know.

Looks so clean and right, as expected. I bet it handles beautifully too.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Sweet!
Just yesterday I was wondering how this project was coming along....
Bet that would look especially nice with a quality piece of english walnut.

Qustions:
Is the butt plate cast or machined like woodsrunner?

Will there be a build video on things specific to Fowler, like fitting the thumb plate?

If we select "Walnut" will it be English, or American Black Walnut?
Thank you for building this kit, i am a Michigan Upland bird hunter, and it is on my bucket list to harvest a Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock with a Fowler.

The buttplates are cast.  These will probably be fit to the stock by us before shipping the kit.  At some stage we might transition to machined buttplates.

If you purchase Walnut, it will be black walnut.   We would like to offer English walnut if we can find sources that can supply what we need at a "reasonable" price.

Yep, we'll be doing a video on the kit assembly.  We'll also probably put out a video soon introducing the kit.

Thanks!
Jim

I'll also add that we'll probably be offering a stain package that will help the black walnut to look more similar to English walnut.  Thanks for the idea Dave.

Can it be ordered without tang carving, lock molding and wrist inlay inlet?

No, just an illusion with the picture, or the picture exaggerating things.  The bores are very smooth.   When feeling the finish, you can't detect any lines or grooves whatsoever. They are produced by Rice.  One of the best in the business.  Trust us.  We'll take care of you!

I need a break!  Actually we have a new piece of equipment coming in a month that is going to need a lot of work to get up and going, so this will be the next project.  Maybe by the end of the year we’ll get started on a Hawken.

Very nice indeed.  Is the carving done by hand, or machine?

You can just as easily shoot round ball  in a 16 bore. Expect more kick and less accuracy.
