Pistol build by a novice

I have a tapered antique damast pistol barrel 7/8 at the widest point.what would be the minimum wide of stock wood to use

Barrel diameter plus 2 times the thickness of the lock bolster plus 1/8” is the minimum.

I follow Rich's math but my pucker factor would be excessive with stock wood that narrow. Id allow another 3/4+ inch to account for work around the pommel...depending on the style pistol you have chosen.
