Info. On Builder Wes Noye
« on: June 24, 2024, 08:13:01 PM »
Nifty .54 percussion rifle with mixed (?) style elements by Wes Noye. From Pennsylvania, I think. Has a Lancaster style butt, Leman style triggerguard and a Hawken patchbox.  Possibly the elusive Lemcastawken. 😀 Anyone familiar with this builder?

That triggerguard is a Southern mountain variation seen in parts of North Carolina, not a Leman. It’s longer, and the tail curls back towards the guard more than the Leman. This is a classic waste of a beautiful piece of wood IMO.

I don't find it a waste of wood at all. I like it even if it's not all of one school or another. Here is a thread about him. Edit add link.

I guess I was going on these GRRW Leman triggerguards.

I used to shoot with Wes at a club up in Blair county, for the Pa. teem tryouts. Very nice gentleman and shooter.

Wes passed away in 2018 in Altoona PA.
He was 82
First met him at the Blair County Gun club where the PA Federation of Blackpowder Shooters held their annual state shoot!
He built quite a few rifles and often used for Raffles & shoot prizes.
