Original screw tip horn
« on: August 01, 2024, 06:42:10 PM »
A friend gifted me this horn today. It’s easily the best original I own. Philadelphia?  It’s about 14” around the curve and the butt plug is 2 and 3/4” across. There’s no spout plug. That’s the screw on tip.

Neat well preserved horn, what a gift! Looks to me to be a mid/late 19thC Lancaster horn, based on the tip, the shape of the butt and the pressed rope design. Early 1770s ? late 1850s ?

Look forward to seeing what "hornturner" says about it.

Nice, very nice. I don't see Philadelphia. Looks Lancaster to me. Others are a lot more knowledgable on screw tip horns.

It looks a lot like a late Lancaster. Here is a pic from Arts book

Thanks fellas. Late Lancaster it is. Later than my normal timeframe of interest but really nicely made, and super light.
