Time to start carving.
« on: August 06, 2024, 01:49:44 AM »
Tried to come up with something original and a little different but still within traditional bounds, if that’s possible.
Anyway… came up with this.

Time to start carving I guess.

Nice start but doesn't seem finished yet on the upper right side.

Reminds me of something that one of the Angstsadt clan did. I like it.
That piece of wood looks fantastic.

Looking pretty cool, Jeff.
Is the scroll under the cheek piece s little flattened  or is that just the angle of the "shot"?

Okay, version 2.0, with assists from Dan and Daryl
Oh and an assist from Hatchet Jack before I posted this.

Second version really looks nice; I'd use it!

For some reason, I cannot draw at all.  Even attempting to copy a design like this ends in disaster!  But I can do the carving once the design is on the wood.

I would just say to keep drawing.  I was right there where you are at one time.

Just a thought, the bottom tendril seems to go against the flow of the rest of the carving. Have you thought about turning it over? Otherwise looks great. By the way, takes a lot of nerve to ask a forum what they think :) I admire you for it!!

It’s great. Elements of it or its flow remind me a little of the Wm Antes-attributed smooth rifle which I think is in Rifles of Colonial America volume 1 as #17.

Thanks for the comment, but I think I’m happy with how the bottom element interacts with the upper portion of the design.
