Allen Martin rifle
« on: January 01, 2010, 06:09:58 PM »
Did anyone check out the Allen Martin "Dickert" on the contemporary site?    Pretty nice, I would say.   Also, check out the
powder horn by Bob Albrecht.....I was impressed.   I then checked our table layout for the Lewisburg show and found that Bob will be there.....great, maybe I'll get a first hand look at that horn..........Don

Very nice rifle.  Allen certainly knows his business and his subject. I never stop enjoying looking at his work.

Allen,
I agree with all the above.  I have always been a fan of Jacob Dickert because an ancestor of mine was a contemporary.  Yours is one of the best I've seen.  Will this rifle be at Lewisburg?

Pletch,

I am think that rifle went to a collector in Germany.

I am sure Allen will correct me if I am wrong.

Well thanks for all the wonderful compliments !!! I can live on em !! almost !!

The rifle did go to Germany and most likely won't ever be seen by all you wonderful folks ....... My wife & I took it to Jim Chambers' house the end of October and met the German chaps there ...... he seemed to be delighted by it !!
This is his 4th rifle from me .......... I wonder whats next !!

This has a 40-1/2" -50caliber barrel by Getz ...... a re-filed and really worked over Davis "french" lock ....... the stick of sugar came from Harrison and when I shaped the buttstock a large in-grown bark/flaw appeared right in front of the patchbox ..... !!! I love to see stuff like that .. reshaped davis triggers .... most of the other stuff was handmade .....

Turned into a neat rifle ...... thanks for all the commits and a Happy New year to all .... hope to see everybody at one time or another !!!

Allen

When we peons see and handle the work that most of the better makers manage it puts us (after getting slightly pi-------- off) in our places - a humbling experience, for certain.... ::) :)
