Early Dickert Build

Started this in 2019 with the help of Brad and Shane Emig in their gun building class. The pandemic hit and with some health issues, I was unable to go back to my class. Well, just finishing up in the white, but without Brad and Shane’s guidance. I need some advice on anything it needs before carving and finishing.

It looks very good to me, but at Kempton recently, the judges said to inlet the side plate deeper on my rifle. I would suggest the same on yours. That's all I see.

Yes, it’s got to get down to the bevel on the side plate inlet, like the lock. Same on trigger guards. Took me a while to see that.

To the Top for one i am enjoying referring to - Certainly would like to see more of this one as you progress

To me, it looks like there is too much space between the bottom of the lower scroll and the butt stock bottom, while the upper scroll climbs up toward the butt plate return. If the design was “tilted” downward a bit it would look more comfortably balanced in that space. Just a thought.

OP:  take a critical look at the volutes in your drawing, especially the two closest to the butt plate.  Try to remove the elbows and flat areas, before you pick up the chisel.
