Double set triggers of a Kibler Colonial
« on: August 12, 2024, 09:45:11 PM »
Has anyone fit double set triggers on a Kibler's Colonial rifle? Seems like plenty of room in the triggerguard bow.
Which one fits?
Cheers

You might want to PM "BAMA" Jim Parker. He makes his own set triggers and I know he has built a number of Kibler guns on custom order.

I had one that Mike Brooks fitted double set triggers in.  You have to add fillers on each side of the trigger plate.  The single trigger plate is wider than the double set trigger plate.  It also adds a bit to the pull length.

Davis #4 works best. You will need to fill in the original trigger plate mortise. If your triggers have lower ground internal knives then you will probably need to solder on shoes so that they can reach up a slap the sear.

Yes I have. As others have said you have to fill in some wood but it can be done.

Thank you

I did a SS trigger based on a design in George’s “English Guns and Rifles”.  The DST would make a pull length longer than I would like. I' keep  waiting for Davis/Log Cabin to produce the design. Davis showed it a few years back.  But the ones they show aint it so far as I can see. This is a great trigger. Breaks like a dst.

I bought an extra plate from kibler to build it on.

The "fly"in the lock tumbler is a level of sophistication seldom seen on old American rifles of the pre-percussion era and I have wondered about the use of any  kind of set triggers on rifles with only short range capability. The best muzzle loader I ever owned was a semi military match rifle with a "4 pin"Brazier lock and single trigger. That high end lock guaranteed a good trigger pull.

I'd be thinking about a single-seat trigger on one of those.

I thought the double set triggers in the big bow would look good, and I prefer set triggers over regular. I won the Kibler rifle that Lorne made for Heffley Creek this year, and I thought about adding them.
