Bark Tanned Mountain Bag

Here’s a handsome bag with a story behind it. I have jumped in only at the end. To be fair and up front to the original creator, I will share the story as it was told to me and not add suppositions.

A collector of fine works, a gentleman , and a client of mine had consigned an extremely talented and reputable maker in the west to create this . It was bark tanned from likely mule deer, but I will call it ”deer”. The creator then planned and cut out the bag and started its construction.

I don’t have the details, but only know my client received it back incomplete. The client had no use for it in that state, so I accepted “store credit” to purchase it, intending to get to it straight away…

YEARS later, after looking at it on the corner of my cutting board the whole time, I finally began its completion.

I have a picture of the bag as I had it at that point ( included in this post). You can see the steps we each took.  I guessed what the large piece was for, using a bag I had that was also made by the creator as a model. The two are very close, and I am including a picture of it as well ( for reference).

The strap is made by Christine Connolly Tolbert.

So, now you know the whole story. Three makers and two owners … and THEN it is complete, and waiting for its home so it can be put to work.

Measures 13.5” x 12”
Gusset graduates from 1.5” to 1”
Strap is 1.75”

$435 plus $25 shipping and insurance
