Ettore Russo Custom .54 Cal Flintlock Rifle
« on: November 08, 2024, 10:14:10 AM »
Up for grabs is a custom steel-mounted rifle stocked in walnut by builder Ettore Russo. The rifle’s lock is an RE Davis Jaeger style, and the barrel is a straight Green Mountain brand 1″ in diameter by 42″ in length. The LOP of the rifle is a hair over 13″, and the overall length is 56.5″. Weight of the rifle is 9.5 lbs. The stock is finished with a base layer of iron nitrate, followed by tinted shellac, topped with several coats of varnish oil, paste wax has been applied for added protection.

I am asking $1,750 $1,700 $1,650 shipped for this fine rifle. It will be shipped in a wood crate and will include a replacement frizzen and double ball mold (.530 if my memory serves me correctly).

Is there a patchbox catch or release?? Also, it looks like the left side of the side plate extends out past the panel boundary?

Good morning, and thanks for your inquiry!

There is a patch box release button on the top of the butt plate. The side plate -while admittedly close- does not quite extend past the panel.

I would say that the lock on this rifle is a Davis Jaeger flintlock.  It is my opinion that both the sear screw and the sear spring screw have backed out and likely could use a tightening.

Thanks for chiming in here, Mr. Sapergia. I’ve checked, and both of the screws you’ve referenced are fully seated.
