Looking for BP in NE Penn
« on: January 09, 2010, 06:36:20 PM »
Just wondering if anyone here knows of any gushops in northeast Penn that sells BP. I am in NY and I am located about 45 mins out of Binghamton to the east. I'd rather go to a store close at hand to buy BP than to pay the shipping and haz mat fee. I don't intend to get more than five lbs at a clip. Any help would be appreciated; I tried to do an online search and came up empty.

Suggest you try the Yellow Pages (on this computer thingee) for Sporting Goods!!

If it were me, I'd go to Graf's Inc via your handy dandy computer. They will ship it to your door UPS!   Buddy up with a couple of other shooters and go a case while your at it.  Sometimes they pay the Haz Mat....!  I have a notion til you travel to N/E Pa. and pay the fuel costs etc. etc. you can do the same or better by going to Graf's since they sold the Goex recently for around $12.+ per lb. !  I would bet even money that weighing the pros anc cons you would agree that nutzing around to find a retail store travel there etc etc. your better off as suggested.... Up to U! ;D

Maybe Gander mt. in Scranton. There's a distributor in Moosic. I've bought 25 lbs from her but never asked if she would sell less.

if you buy 5 lbs Goex from Powder inc it would come out to 106 bucks and change with shipping and hazmat.  I doubt you will find it much cheaper in a gun shop. Thats a littleover 21 bucks per pound

I talked to a guy from NE PA and he said :

I would have him call these places...Hunters Gallery in Hamlin, Hemlock Gun Shop near Lake Wallenpaupack, and Wallenpaupack Sports shop near the lake as well...good luck.

Good luck to ya :)

You might consider a run down I 81 to Dixon Muzzleloading.  If you need shoting supplies in addition to powder.  I often see New York plates in the store lot.

Be prepared to pay a high price per pound in almost any gunshop that carries black powder.

TinStar, I live in Owego and get my blackpowder at Montrose Sporting goods in Montrose, Pa.  I got some there last year but I would call and make sure.

Still can't figure why anyone would rather drive around $#*! and gone to find the stuff when they can have it delivered to their door (so far) and cheaper.  But whatever! ;D

Well in my case I have to drive once a year to Tall Pines Farm in Montrose to pick up 4 tons of pellets for the pellet stove so it is a no brainer to stop there and get  powder plus they have a lot of shooting supplies.   Nice older sporting goods store manned by real nice people.  Plus it is a nice hour ride through backroads of Pennsylvania.   ::)

For the past 10 years I've used Goex distributor JJPyrotechnics in Moscow PA, just off I-81...had to run up north back during the summer so I stopped in and bought two 25 pound bulk boxes of loose Goex 3F for $9.25 / lb out the door.
Got home and used it to refill cases of empty cans I'd saved for that purpose...typed new Lot # & date code stickers for the bottoms of the cans.
Over the counter prices are huge compared to dealing with a distributor.

Gander Mt. in Dickson City carries black powder. I bought some last week. I'd call first to check inventory before making the trip.
