Lock Maker P.L.S.
« on: November 27, 2024, 04:56:05 PM »
I have a fullstocked Hawken style rifle with a lock marked ASHMORE WARRENTED on heavily browned exterior and stamped P.L.S. inside.  Any idea who P.L.S. is?

Let's see the entire internal mechanism.MAYBE a member of the Sutter family in Ruffsdale,Pa who were active in the early 1960's
I knew W.G.Sutter and he made bench crafted locks and used the torsion bars from Chrysler and Packard to make tumblers.
This is only a guess from a memory of a long ago time. The thick mainspring hook looks like Sutter's as I remember them.

your lock was also made and marked by Phil Sanders.  he worked for a time at Green River Rifle Works and later on had a shop and property in Huson Mont west of Missoula Mont. Phil was a good friend and I met him back in 1973 at a rendezvous in Chadron Nebraska.
