Looks like the barrel had been spot faced for a drum installation.

The guy thought it was ok. It needs a custom touchhole liner, or to be cut off in front of the hole and re-thread the breech.

The instructions for White Lightning liners suggests lightly countersinking the drilled hole...... ???

I wonder how many grains of prime you could get behind the lock plate and under the barrel with that?

For some reason guns attract people who have no business messing with guns.

Awfully thick appearing 'head' on that liner.
Almost looks like a re-purposed NG or LP gas orifice from an appliance or other.

Maybe they used the counter sink to dig a deep enough hole to allow the thick head of the thing to lay flush with the bbl flat.
There would be other ways to accomplish that need.
But if they're using a (modified?) LP gas orifice as a muzzle loader bbl flash hole liner, I
wouldn't expect those other ideas to pop into their head right away.

Nice strong Witness Mark on the top bbl flat and tang too. Maybe that's the rear sight notch.

If I’m looking at this correctly, the sear arm on the lock will be underneath the back of the breechplug.
I wonder if there would be enough vertical space for it to properly move the sear to fire the gun.

hmm...  you guys have pointed out a few things I didn't notice at first.

Just kinda goes from 'maybe not the bestest' to 'a lil bit werster'...

WOW, he even timed the breechplug!  I bet a little JB Weld will fill that gap.

to fix cut off re breech and get some guidance before proceeding (wait till you see his dove tails for sights and tenens ) :o

maybe it's me but that touch hole looks a little to far forward of the breech plug

Dovetails are a mess too, could be time to scrap it?

This has been given a good critical review here. It received the same on Facebook. Not sure it needs more piling on. The builder is probably new, doesn’t have a mentor, and has probably decided to never post their work anywhere in the future.

Rich you are right. I remember sometime back there was a post about people not showing there work. This is a Prime example of why. Don't know about others. But I have my share of screw ups. It's how I learned..
Like I stated that touch hole issue is no big deal. It's a simple fix and you don't have to cut the barrel off to fix it. Don't ask how I know...lol

I remember seeing this on bookface although I can’t find it now. Maybe he removed the post. Anyway I remember him pretty much refusing and denying any constructive criticism. Sad part is he is ruining two good barrels instead of just one.

Is it possible that the intention was to be able to use either flint or percussion by exchanging a drum/nipple setup and a percussion lock/  touchhole insert and flint lock to use either flint or percussion ignition ?
Just a thought
