Bean contemp rifle made for the state of TN
« on: January 05, 2025, 07:58:20 PM »
Sometime in the past, maybe mid to late 2023 or early 2024, there was an article in some periodical about a replica Bean rifle (maybe Baxter Bean) that was made and to be offered to the state of TN or some state agency as a gift.  I seem to recall it was commissioned by the TN game commission and intended to be presented to the TN governor.  Specific details are fuzzy.

Does anyone recall the details and recall the publication the article appeared in??  May have been Muzzle Blast.

Thanks

Steve Gengelbach from Kentucky is the Builder. I know he has a Facebook page but are not sure of any other contact info. The articles you speak of are, I believe, in Muzzle Blast and consisted of Bob Browner's Hawken as Missouri's state rifle and Steve's as the Tennessee's state historic rifle. If you are a NMLRA member you can search the MB archive on their website.
Flintlock is the only truly reliable source of ignition in a muzzle loader.

Robin:

Thank you very much.  I'm surprised no one else seems to know about it.  I saw Steve and the rifle at the CLA show last August but also really wanted to have a copy of that article.  I am a member and will see what a search turns up.

The article I'm thinking about is in the March 2023 issue of Muzzle Blast. It is in the MB archive.
