WTB Cannon Lock

Every couple of years I ask about this....if anyone has one or has a lead on one, I would love to purchase a cannon lock.  There were several different types but the picture here shows a typical one.  Every once in a while one comes up for auction but I only find out about it after the auction is over...   I don't know what they might be worth but let's say $350 to $1,000 as a starting point.  Thanks.

Welcome to the club!  The last one I saw was a British lock for a carronade and it went for about $1,500 a year or two back but nothing since that wasn't a faked-up reproduction.

Dave, many years ago, I sold a 3" gun to a local friend of mine, and he wanted a better system for firing it other than a linstock and slow match.  So I made a lock that screwed to the end of the cascabel.  But this gun had a removable cascabel breech for loading the charge, and I installed a nipple so a percussion cap could be used.  The system was really effective.  And in addition, I made an adjustable sight that slipped over a stud on a bearing so that no matter what attitude the gun laid, the sight was always dead centre on the bore.  I know this is of no use to you, but your thread made me remember this guy.

Thanks so much for the response.....beautiful cannon lock !! As usual, I am admiring your craftsmanship. 

Although I have a full size cannon, I am really looking for a cannon flintlock as more of a desk ornament....  I just like the look and the history behind them.  I usually use a linstock to fire the big gun, but never liked the slow fuse effect of just priming the vent with loose powder.  I started using some pyrotechnic fuse I found that burns at ~ 1/2 second per foot !!  I use about 6 inches to fire the gun, so a 1/4 second delay from linstock touch to the gun going off is fine...
