Original Indiana Bag with Screw Tip Horn

Years ago, a farm auction in northeastern Indiana had several antique firearms. I did not get any of the guns, but later in the auction I picked up a good quality bag & horn set that was not advertised and probably went with one of the rifles. The bag was in solid condition with its original woven strap, and the horn had a screw tip. It was an estate sale with no sales tax, and while it was about 25 years ago, no one wanted the bag & horn, so it sold for $15. Screw tips are rare from Indiana, so I thought it would make an interesting post. The horn was cracked during its working life and was repaired with a rawhide patch, probably squirrel skin and now somewhat ratty. The patch knife was not with the set; I just stuck it in the sheath so it wouldn't get lost.

So now the horn guys know what an Indiana screw tip looks like!

Very nice! Auctions have always been my favorite venue to purchase things, I have attended hundreds of them. Oh I have been outbid on lots of things but I’ve also snagged some bargains. It requires patience and the resistance to over bid. I look at it this way, I set the price that I am willing to pay and stick to it. If you attend enough auctions you will come away a winner more often than not.
