Daniel Marker style
« on: May 14, 2025, 01:27:17 AM »
Well, this one took awhile for me to get done.  In the style of Daniel Marker of Sharpsburg, MD area, at least as close as I could get based off photos of several of his rifles.  Harrison stump sugar maple, Rice B swamped .50 44" barrel, Chambers golden age lock, Davis double set triggers, 13 Sterling silver inlays, way too many piercings in the brass.  Build #33 for me, first one with a ramrod drill runout, dang quarter sawn blank pulled it nearly a half inch low and wide.  Glued in a patch section of wood so I could play with a wear plate with piercings to make it look purely decorative.  Few quick pics yesterday after putting it all back together after wood and metal finishing, but you can get a good idea of it.

Fantastic! I like to see more “golden age” rifles. The wear plate fits right in with the style, too.

Very nice work, Osprey. You may have a problem finding something more challenging than your Marker for the next project.

That's a high bar right there.  Great looking rifle with much to look at and take in, all pulled together nicely.  That inlay on the comb would have given me night sweats ??? ???

You and me both!  Not sure if the inletting or engraving on that curve was worse.

Won't be a problem.  Got a few projects I want to do that I keep putting off cause I'm a bit scared.   :o

Wow!!  Really love the color.

Aquafortis over tannic acid, they go pretty dark for me with that combo.

Yowzer.  What a beauty.  A lot to take in, and all good.  That deep, rich finish came out super.....and it won't fade or turn with time.
