Another old project started in a Jack Brooks class @ WKU in 2010, then sat around my shop for years.  This year I put some more time in it.  Wire inlay wasn’t going well for me, but I prefer it as an accent rather than covering the whole stock.  The carving still needs more work, plus some other stuff before staining.
Getz .54cal., R.E. Davis lock and castings from Jack.  I made the nose cap, pipes and the claws are from an old sparerib.

That carving looks fantastic! I’m curious how you decided where to place the wire inlay accents—was that based on originals or your own take?

That's a great project to built, I've been wanting to do it myself down the road. Your doing some really nice work on it! Can't wait to see your progress.

Thanks everyone.  I really appreciate your encouragement.

JJMarsh - I guess the carving is what really appeals to me on these old guns.  So on the lock side I started to copy the original’s wire inlay around and just ahead of the patch box.  Then I opted for carving coming off the nose of the comb, as well as the off side and the rest of the gun.  Perhaps I’ll add silver wire accents coming down around the thumb piece, like on this practice piece.
