Just to add a few more pics.....The first pic is my tang. I fashioned it from an old 50 cal CVA barrel. So, you can see the middle of where the hook goes into is the 50 cal barrel. There is enough side to side contact and up and down contact to keep the fit snug. Now...hindsight being 20\20....I already had the breech plug fitted to the barrel. And what I should have used was a breech plug with more width. But I wasn't in the mood to re-fit another breech plug.
And here's a few other pics that may (or may not) help. Again, mine is for a flintlock as opposed to your cap lock. And again, hindsight being 20\20 I would have made the tang thickness less...by at least 1/3.
