There must be some reason we see the same inlays and patchbox finial forms used repeatedly. For example, what is the symbolism behind the star inlay on the cheekpiece, the pelican headed patch box, the Q finial, the daisyheaded patchbox etc. Are these items referring to some specific meaning or are they just forms common to the art of the day?
