My friend picked up a  (new) 1 1/4 X48 X.40 cal. barrel 
and on the bottom flat in an OVALl are three X's and next to the oval is stamped "rated" .Dose anyone know the maker's name?  Thanks for the replys. Eric D. Lau

They are a little before my time, but it's most likely a Douglas.  They sold the regular barrels, then the X, the XX and the XXX.  The XXX is the very best barrels that they sold.  They are air gauged to within so many thousands.  It should be a good shooter.

Is it made of drawn stock (not machined surfaces)?  Probably Douglas.

This is not an old barrel and I've seen the X's on a Douglas barrel .But the X's are inside an oval and the WORD "rated" is stamped beside the oval. The interior and exterior are bright no patenia whatsoever .

I don't know anything about the barrel,
But it's amazing how many guys have read the thread, no doubt due to the subject heading!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
