I'm glad to see that you just put in a patch and kept moving. That's exactly what needed to happen. Good job.

My #1 had two patches. One was in the grip area of the forearm, where I sawed too close and cut into the ramrod hole, and a second patch in the lock panel, because of problems with the lock inlet. I took a sharp plane and cut off whole lock panel and then glued a new piece of wood over it, and then re-inlet the lock.

Based on your first photo and the photo of your fix, you did well. I think your patched in wood will be fairly un noticeable once you get finish on the stock.

And ya did good too.  ;) Nice repair.  It was a whoops.......  Forget it & go on.  I have one I built
in 1978 that I call "Ol Ugly"  And it is one ugly SOB.  It has been a inspirational rifle for over 47
years.  When I would get discouraged, I would get that rifle out & sit down & lay it across my lap
& look at all the errors & think "No matter what I do, it has to be better than this ugly SOB !"  ;D

Chin Up & Forward !   (or in my case, sideways at times  8)  )

Thanks for the kudos! I also have redone the lock mortise by inletting the lock in a piece of walnut, gluing that to the face of the mortise and then sanding it down to blend with the original wood. Before this the lock was way proud above the wood. It turned out better than I expected. It is sad that my greatest joy in building these guns is overcoming my own errors! I will post a pic of that when completed. Thanks for all the help.
