Black powder is used as a primer for modern military pieces, and Goex, the U.S. manufacturer, is supplying Ukraine, thus causing scarcity.
Goex powder sells to the U.S. military. Goex Industries, the only U.S. manufacturer of black powder, supplies black powder for military applications, including use as an ignition charge in artillery systems. The company, now a subsidiary of Estes Energetics, has a long history of military supply and was awarded a Department of Defense contract in September 2023 to support defense needs at its Camp Minden, Louisiana facility.
