Piedmont North Carolina Banded Powder Horns

Does anyone have this book/pamphlet by Michael Briggs?  I'd like to know if it's worth the price of admission.

I do have the "book" by C. Michael Briggs. It is photo-copied I believe, or printed from a computer. The horns, pouches, and accoutrements are great, but the production of the piece is rather simple. The photography is a little weird on a couple of pieces as well. Also, there is little to no reference as far as dimensions are concerned.

The horns are great though, and I have used several as references for building. I just wish the production was better.

If you are going to be in Lewisburg next week, I will have my copy with me. You are welcome to take a look at it.

Jeff, thank you much for your response.  I thought I had heard that about the book, but if the pics are worth it, then I'll go ahead and order one.  Unfortunately I won't be able to get to Lewisburg, but am planning on going to our guild's annual meeting.  Hope to see you there and have some success in Lewisburg.  Thanks again.

I think Michael may have or close to having some of his book printed in regular book format. Michael is an ALR member maybe he will chime in.

I have his horn booklet and I think its great, its in full color and has a considerable amount of information about the horns picture within.

Dennis, that would be very welcomed info if the format has been jazzed up.  I have several fellow horners interested in buying one and I've been elected to be the 'seeker of the info".   ;D

I had the pleasure of seeing Michael Briggs and Bill Ivy's presentation of NC rifles and accouterments at Old Salem, NC last year. He is the authority.

Jeff...any chance you will have it at the Horners meeting at Roscoe too?

I seem to recall there was some talk about banded horns being pretty much a NC exclusive...then I was browsing Jerry Nobles volume 2 and realized there was an early Tansel banded right there....
I had the impression that they first carved most of their early horns in Ky and had no NC connections....? Maybe the banded theme was already growing legs amongst hornsmiths by then?

Anyway...I love southern banded horns and probably need this booklet myself...

I will have the book with me in March, if dummy me doesn't forget it while packing everything up. At this stage in life, I find lists to be most useful.
