No big deal man, it's just patches glued in. Lots of time and beer is all. ;D I got that stock out of a sawmills slab pile 20 years ago when I was picking up a truck load of slabs for fire wood.. It was probably  24" wide and 12' long and 3" thick. It probably weighed hundreds of pounds.  It had termite damage through out, but I probably got 5 full stocks out of it with no termite damage and this little short stock. There was only one termite hole in the end grain of the buttstock so I figured "what the $#*!" and made this gun out of it. As you can see I ran into a little more than one termite hole.....

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

That trick would make a great tutorial.

I don't get you, Mike. So many of your guns you work so hard to put worm holes IN, and this one, when they are already there, you get rid of them.

Dear Puzzled in NY,
Worm holes are OK, a termite colony is NOT OK! ;)

REAL nice on the grain match,  helps a lot to have a whole plank of scraps to find the right piece I'd bet. one good argument against pre-carved stocks
I had to look hard with a fair amount of imagination to find the patches.  did you use irregular shaped pieces?  what adhesive did you use?

Beats me, couple years ago now.

Probably some cheapo two part epoxy I had laying around.

This might be a good example of a filler made of stained wood dust mixed with epoxy.  ;D

Any old timey beer works well. I like brands my grand father used to drink. You know you have had enough when the repair seems like it will be easy. ;)

Termites in Iowa? Tell me you went way way south to pick up that firewood! Nice work of course!
