Who made this Horn?? I want one!! Lots of photos.
« on: February 17, 2010, 03:03:32 AM »
A couple of years ago, I built a really nice Early Lancaster for a friend (my boss)

He wanted a whole kit to go with it, so I found this one on TOW, and purchased it to go with his gun.

I have been kicking myself ever since.  I just love this horn, and would like one in the same spirit as this one.  Not a duplicate, but the same aging, and folk art scrim.

Any one out there who knows where it came from??  Everything about it is CLASS!!

Dane, can you find any makers mark or initials on the horn?

I have a number of horns from the Sibley's and this horn shows many of their features. It's almost impossible to find their maker's mark sometimes which is an artform in itself. It costs $20 a year to subscribe to TOW's archive but that would be one way of finding this horn again and asking Tow of this rigs origin. Good luck!!

Scott surfs here and he'll pop in eventually.  I know he mentioned once regarding marking, but can't remember if this was one of his marks or not.

Gary,

It is a Sibley horn.  I found another with that maker's mark on the Armoury Hill Historic Services site.  The same mark with "00" after it, for the year it was made.

Mr Sibley, please pick up!!

The thunderbird with an S is Scott and Cathy. If it was on TOW it was what Scott calls one of his spec horns.

YES  We made that one.    bigbat@tritel.net    We make a horn once in a while. Cathy is working on a really neat horn right now. I will post pictures of it when it is done. We change our mark about every 10 years. I got the bug to make a buffalo horn like the one pictured from the Lewisburg show. I found a 16 inch buffalo horn and have it rough shaped. It must be set aside for a while. I have a fellow on a "quest" for a collection. He wants 6 different banded horns and a panelled horn to add to the 25 he has already bought. Whats a guy to do? Cathy just spent all last week working on a horn for me, The horn has been done for 2 years and waiting for a special theme. I found it. But its not done yet, I hope its not enother 2 years.

Gentlemen,

Thanks so much for all your help.  I finally tracked down the Big Bat, and we've come to a deal.  He's making me a horn.  Man, am I excited.  If
Scott doesn't mind, I'll post some photos when I get the horn.

Again, thanks for all your input.  Did I mention I'm excited??
