Another Whack at an Early VA Pouch

Based on Wallace's last Muzzle Blasts article and our discussions here, I took another whack at Wallace's early VA pouch. I made this pouch square, or mostly. I put the flap button a little low so the pouch ended up 7.25" x 7" instead of 7.25" x 7.25". I had 3-4oz veg tan, so, I used that instead of the thinner leather in the original. Because I was using thicker leather, I rolled and hemmed the flap edge instead of using a welted edge. Everthing else is the same. I attached the strap using two small linked pewter buttons just as we discussed. You can see what I did in the pictures. As a final little touch, I made a stamp to match the one shown in Wallace's photos and decorated my pouch in a similar manner.
I stained the pouch using vinegar and iron. Let me know what you think.

That looks really great Mark. I think you got it nailed this time. The stamping really adds to the look in my opinion. If you have that one with you in Williamsburg, I want to see it.
Nice job!

Excellent job Mark. I'm with Jeff on this one, the stamp job is a great finishing step.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
Jeff, I do plan to bring this pouch with me to Williamsburg. It is mine for the time being, until I make something I like better.

Great! I look forward to seeing it.
I saw Dennis, Wallace, Eve, and Jim Survil today in Harrisonburg at the show. I think we are all counting down the days to warmer weather and Williamsburg!
