using one gun for two different types of matches
« on: February 20, 2010, 01:19:34 AM »
I have a very tight shooting rifle that i would like to shoot both chunk gun matches and bench matches with, i dont want to remove the fixed sights on this gun but when i shoot chunk matches i take out or enlarge my sighter on the first or second shot. Does any one sell    a removeable clamp on sight that i could use for the chunk matches or plans on how to make one?

I don't quite get your drift, Gary. Why do you want to remove the sights - I thought open, fixed sights are the only ones allowed.  Do you want to change the sights between bench and chunk?

 What does this mean?

" I take out or enlarge my sighter on the first or second shot"

I would like to put a higher front sight on the gun just for the chunk matches as when i shoot with the present sights my group is right over my sighter thus enlarging it so i cant get the same sight picture after na couple of shots. Then when not shooting chunk i could remove the higher sight and use the already existing fixted sights for open sight matches as the gun shoots to point of aim with those sights.  With the higher front sight i would be printing my shots lower than the sighter and thus not obliterating it or taking it out.

I understand now - holes around the perifery of the 'spotter' will enlarge the 4" or 5" black circle, making it difficult to get the same sight picture.

I like this target for a spotter. It seems to work well with both beads and blade sights. This is one possibility that eliminates the need to replace the front or rear sight.
It's available from Targetz.com

Thanks for the sugestion,i will try those targets out and see if they work for me. They do look a bit larger than my present sighter though. I'll take them for a spin around the block and see what happens. Thanks again.   Gary
