ALR Meeting at the Frazier Museum set for Saturday, March 27
« on: March 02, 2010, 06:40:35 AM »
Following the successful ALR meeting at Fort Boonesborough, plans have been finalized for a get-together at the Frazier International History Museum in Louisville, KY on Saturday, March 27th.  Museum hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm ET.

The Frazier has generously waived the normal admission fee for ALR members.  The Frazier is also making available a meeting area on the 4th floor at 10:30am.  ALR members are encouraged to bring current projects, accessories, and other related items to share, but NO AMMUNITION is allowed.

IMPORTANT: Members bringing guns, artifacts, etc should enter thru the security entrance on 9th St. to check in their property.  Others should use the main entrance and say they are ALR members for free admission.

For lunch, we can order deli box lunches to eat in the meeting room, so we can spend more time together.  There are a variety of sandwiches, chips or pasta and soft drinks available.  Cost is $9.50 per person.  The box lunches must be ordered in advance.  If you want a box lunch, let me know via email and I will send you the menu.  I will need your order by Wednesday, March 17.  Please bring exact change on the day of the meeting.

For anyone within several hours of Louisville, this will be a great opportunity to meet, greet and share AND see the marvelous displays of arms and armour at the Frazier.

Among the firearms on display are examples by JP Beck, Wiley Higgins, Jacob Hoak, Jacob Stoudenour, Nathan Clause, J Roop & Daniel Schweitzer, Stophel Smith, Henry Lechler, and J&S Hawken, as well as the entire gun shop of John Smith of California.

For directions and information on the Frazier visit www.fraziermuseum.org

Please confirm either by posting here or via email (see my profile) if you are planning to attend.  If your email address is not included in your profile, please send it to me.  We need to have a head count for the Frazier staff and I will be sending updates as needed via email.

A huge thanks to ptk1126 for all his efforts to pull this together!  Hope to see you there, it should be a great time !

This is a bump to the top, in an effort to generate as much interest as possible.

So far we have about 10 or 12 ALR members planning on partaking of the Frazier's generosity.

I wish it wasn't the same weekend as the Williamsburg show.  We didn't realize the conflict when we scheduled with the Frazier.

Hope to see you there.

For what its worth,  I just got my new Single Shot Rifle Journal and there is an article in it on a current major exhibit at the Frazier on the schuetzen tradition featuring a number of very fine muzzleloading schuetzen rifles.   If you are interested at all in this later aspect of the high quality American muzzleloading rifles, attending the meeting later this month might be a real two-fur

Just curious... would that article be written by Tom Schiffer?

Not Tom this time,  looks like it was done by "Kelly E Williams, Associate Curator"  naturally I'm assuming that Kelly is on the Frazier staff.  the article is quite a bit more than the usual press release.  Kind of hard to tell from the photos but the one that shows part of the exhibit gallery seems to show about half ML and half cartridge schuetzen rifles.  It mentions that there are 4 of the former from George Schalk of Pottstown PA.  The exhibition is from the L. Dan Schlegel Jr. collection.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this; getting to do both ALR AND schuetzen stuff in one trip.

@*??!-!&&%#--$$##-it.    I just found out that the Schuetzen exhibit has been taken down---two weeks earler than it was originally scheduled to be.  The Editor of the Single Shot rifle Journal is seriously pi$$ed off at them.  so there goes the 2-fur!!!   but I'll bring my percussion schuetzen for the show-n-tell anyway.

I wonder what happened.  In our conversations with the Frazier staff, they mentioned the Schuetzen exhibit would be there during our visit.  Oh well, it will still be a great outing.

Hey Sparky,

Glad to hear you can make it.  Don't know why the IM didn't work.  I sent the menu via the email in your profile.

I'll be there Saturday morning....  the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.  I'm shooting for arriving around 9:00am and have a look around before our "meeting" on the 4th floor at 10:30am.

The count of ALR members who have indicated they will attend is currently 15, plus several bringing wives and/or kids, makes the total around 20.

NOTICE:  Even if you haven't rsvp'ed, you can still come.  ALR members are encouraged to bring current projects, accessories, and other related items to share, but NO AMMUNITION is allowed.

Reminder:  IMPORTANT: Members bringing guns, artifacts, etc should enter thru the security entrance on 9th St. to check in their property.  Others should use the main entrance and say they are ALR members for free admission.

For directions and information on the Frazier visit www.fraziermuseum.org

Looking forward to seeing you there.
